What training method is most effective to aid the player development in Football Manager? How much does training intensity affect how well the player develops? In this video, FranklyFM84 takes a closer look at whether applying double or normal training intensity will be most effective in terms of player development.
To find out how much impact double training intensity has, compared to normal training intensity, this experiment takes a closer look at the progress of Rangers’ wonderkid Bailey Rice over three seasons in Football Manager 2024.
What’s the effect of Training Intensity?

In Football Manager 2024, there are many things that you can do to improve your players. At the one hand you can maximize the effect of your training schedules to improve your players so that they fits your tactical styles, or setting up an individual training regime for the player to help them reach their maximum potential.
When it comes to developing players and setting up the individual player training, one question that I often get asked is what happens if you expose young players to double intensity training too quickly? Would the intense training help to bring out the best in the player quickly or would it have a negative effect on the player?
The training intensity can have a major effect on the overall Individual Training Workload. Despite you can leave it to the medical team to automatically adjust the training intensity according to their overall physical condition. However, the general consesus is to manually set double training intensity when taking control of a player’s individual training with the perception it helps in an quicker youth development of players. But is this simply a myth, or should you consider their individual training workload by simply leaving it to normal training intensity.

The Result of the Experiment?
In today’s video I am going to look at what happens when you train a player the conventional way and compare it to the same player when he is trained with double intensity.
For this experiment I have picked 16 year old Scottish wonderkid Bailey Rice and looked at his development three seasons forward, until he’s 19 and he’s better suited to be exposed to first team football. Normally, when players turns 18, you would want to give the player more match experience, either by sending the player out on loan, or develop them in-house by moving them up the age groups to get match minutes from the first team bench. Earlier, I have done an experiment on whether it’s best to send the player out on loan, or develop them in-house. You can see the result of this experiment by watching this video, or read our guide to using loans to improve youth development on youth players.
Watch the video below to find out how this training experiment about training intensity went!
Note! In this experiment I have used the exact same save file and split them at the start of the game, the player has the exact same Current and Potential Ability for both saves.
